Default Sunroof question regarding built in wind deflector

Hi there,

I was looking at the greenbook and noticed that some sunroof cars
have a built-in wind deflector and some cars don't. In the greenbook
screenshot you'll see the deflector is Part #2. Likewise, in the picture
with the two red cars you can see one has the deflector(car on top) and
one doesn't (car on bottom). I have a 1983 factory turbo car with the black
headlineer and sunroof without the deflector. I was wondering...

1. Was the deflector a factory option. Why do some cars have it and some cars don't? and
2. Is this something I can add if I source the parts?

Looking forward to reading your responses,
Michael

All of the sunroof cars have the built in deflector. When the plastic accessory deflector that mounts on top of the roof is installed the first step in the instructions is to remove the existing deflector. When the plastic one cracks and is removed most people didn't save the original built in deflector so they end up without it.

Oh that makes sense and this car did have the accessory deflector and I removed it! How easy do you forsee it is to get the factory deflector? Thanks for the response! Also do you know how many parts the assembly is? Not many good pictures online to really get a good look

It should be very easy to get a deflector from any 240 with a sunroof and attach it with 4 screws. It's just 3 parts, the deflector and the 2 arms.

I'll keep an eye out for one. I have only seen a handful of 240 Volvos show up in local yards with sunroofs and lately Volvo 240s barely show up at all! May need to create a wanted post!

If I may ask. Do turbo 240s have tan exterior molding on top of the sunroof rails? like a GL or are they black?

I have always seen molding and trim on a turbo to be black

Ah ha, so this is what happened to my car. I always wondered why it wasn't there. My
turbo had the factory accessory blue wind deflector on the roof which cracked and then
I replaced it with an aftermarket one. The factory blue was neat.

I'm pretty sure they're all the same off white color. There's only one part number for each of the cover pieces.

I’ve got an extra factory deflector and arms if needed. It would need to be repainted
