I've been lurking in this forum for a while now and decided it's time for my own project topic.
A short(-ish) introduction: november 2015 I purchased two identical Volvo 142's that have been in storage for about 20 years. One's quite rusty and only suitable for spare parts and for reference, the other one is quite solid for a European car. Relatively little rust and holes.
This is the solid one when I purchased it:
I always wanted to buy a car and do a proper build, instead of just bolting on some off-the-shelve parts. So when I ran in to these 142's a decided it's time do this. With the knowledge that I have today I should have bought a 240, but I started this, so I'm going to finish it.
The goals for this build are:
- Learn to fabricate parts instead of buying of the shelve stuff that bolts right on
- Use as many parts from different cars as possible
- Create a car that skids/drifts easily. I don't want to call it a drift car, because I don't want to compete with it. It just has to slide and leave tire marks.
- It has to sit pretty (hence the adjustable coilovers).
And this is what it should look like when finished. Sometime before the year 2100:
A few parts that I already bought and plan to use:
- B230FK engine
- M90 gearbox
- Garrett GT30 turbo with EWG
- 240 diesel M47 prop shaft
- 1031 rear axle
- Alfa 166 V6 Brembo calipers (front axle)
- 330x32mm brake discs of a V70R (front axle)
- Hydraulic handbrake
- 17" Renault steel wheels
Stuff I need to buy or fabricate:
- Megasquirt ECU (or something similar)
- Custom engine mounts
- Custom strut towers (rear)
- Remote brake booster
- 305mm discs on the rear axle
More info and pictures coming soon...
