I searched for this topic which im sure has been covered before but could not find it. I am getting sick of the 18 mpg my 940 gets. Its also starting to have problems that i dont want to deal with anymore. I dont care if its RWD or FWD, i just want better mileage. If i cant find it with a volvo, i might have to go somewhere else, so convince me! ;-) Also, i have learned a ton on these boards about my RWD cars; how much harder will it be to wrench on FWD's?

I loved my 98 toyota corolla (98-02) it was acctually a ugly 98 chevrolet prizm lsi, fully loaded, nice car wasnt to slow. but it got at least 36 mpg hwy and averaged 33 mpg with the A/C on. most people will tell you to get something diffrent. but 98-02 corolla. See if you can find one of those, they are cheap enough.
As long as it has the overdrive trans though, will have a button on the shifter. The 3 speed ones suck bad.

yep. 244/245 with an m46, b230 and 3.31s in the rear end. should get nearly 30 on the highway in top shape.

what speed do you cruise at with your 944? i used to get consistent 17-19mpg at 75-80mph cruise on the highway. i slowed down to the speed limit, 55 or 65, and now i get 23. food for thought....you would still have a turblow and an infinitely better looking car ;-)

I do mixed driving, so i havent been able to test just highway or just city miles. On the highway, i have taken it down to 60mph, which i got 20mpg on my last tank. Still pretty *****y. And i have been driving with a much lighter foot too.

I'm getting 27-28 city and 35highway in my 88 245 w/ m47. I drive the crap out of this car too. I'm sure I can get 30mpg city if i shifted at a reasonable RPM (not 5-6k)

The best result is going to be something like the current 5 cylinder n/a engine fitted longitudinally, using the ?M90? as fitted to the 960 in Europe, into a 142.

i get 20 in the city if i drive 30-35mph everywhere and not punch it.
i get 27mpg on the highway driving no faster than 65mph this is on the car thats in my sig

a 1987 740gle with a B230F

however i have replaced these things within the last year

Mass air Meter (fuel injection corporation)(200.00)
1 set of rebuilt injectors (30.00 each)
1 K&N panel filter(60.00)
1 Bosch main fuel pump(140.00)
1 set of Denso Iridium plugs(60.00)

my car has 246,000 miles on it now and has no issues and runs great i can appreciate the good gas mileage with today's gasoline prices.

S70 non turbo I get 28-33mpg mix-highway

Isn't that basically the same workings as the NA 850s? If so that is total BS. I just went to sixflags NE a few weekends ago. All highway. Mostly 55 but some 65. Never over 65. Not even to pass..

26.6mpg.
If you are seeing 28-33mpg I will buy a NA S70 tomorrow.

NA 850 5 speed can pull 32mpg easy.

The trip computer is accurate.

The goal now is 35mpg.
