Default b20f... what the h*** is this bolt hole's thread pitch and size?

I've been through almost every thing I can get at the hardware store and I still haven't found something that threads in properly into this hole.

I've tried 3/8-16.
I've tried m10 - 1.50.
I've tried 7/16 - 14.

And a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't even come close.

What actually went in this hole? Is it tapered? Does anyone know the correct bolt size for this thing?

That looks like the location for the oil pressure sensor light. It is 1/8 npt thread.

Its for the intake manifold brace used on FI cars. It's 7/16"-14 but your threads look like they're dirty or damaged. Try running a thread chaser through the threads.

With Volvo I'm surprised it's not Whitworth just to make it interesting.

This is just the spare block I have.. on the engine that's on the car (which has been loved and worked) it also doesn't thread in.

I can now confirm it also isn't an m10 x 1.25

Should I get a plug tap? or a bottoming tap?

Is the hole blind?

I am worried that if I clean the threads and tighten a bolt down it'll be too long and go into the waterjacket or something. I'm not that strong but I have a superpower for breaking things.

Yes, it's blind and not very deep. The original bolt is 1" long. Use a spacer if you can't find a short enough bolt.
