Half of the plastic locking sleeve/collar/ring/thingy broke on my ‘81 240 mechanical speedo cable to the cluster... it still speedo’s half-assed....Any repair suggestions? Duck-tape? Magnets? Voodoo magic?

Short of replacing the whole kit-and-kabotle, what can be done?

A 40 year old used one is going to have the same brittle plastic issue as the one the OP broke.

Mine broke also. I repaired it by using some plastic hose and clamps.

You will have to remove the cable from the transmission and pull a foot into the cabin behind the panel in order to connect it with any degree of nice.

You can also just press fit it into the speedo. I've had cars where the collar went completely MIA. Cable's long enough that it'll remain in place for years.
