Hey,

I recently swapped my tailgate for another one but the seal on it is not the greatest.
I'd like to replace it.

Two question:
How difficult is it to replace the seal on the tailgate? (Not the on the car)
It looks like it could end up being quite the finicky job prying out the old and stuffing the new in the fold?

The replacements I find are the rubber ones w/o felt liner.
What's the feedback on those? Sticky? Quality? Longevity?

TIA!

I had the rear hatch seal out for a paint job. Came out easy, went back easy. A little soap helped.

Thanks for the encouragement.

The VP replacement seal finally came. It's a single, thick lip instead of the original hollow-tube kinda design. The profile for the channel is the same.
Maybe it's because it's new and stiff but while the old one came out easy, the new one took about 90mins to squeeze into the channel with some lubrication.
Re-adjusted the latch-catch. Yay, water and air-tight.

The VP seal sounds like the 1968-89 part, like what's on your old tailgate... Much more durable than the later seal.
