Rear Axle Ratio Knowledge (Volvo 940)

Hi everyone after doing some research I have become more confused on which rear end is on my volvo (there are no ID tags on the axle).

My car is a 1994 Automatic N/A 940 with LH 2.4 and is from virgina in the US.

With some reading it seems my engine is a b230FD but I am not sure at all (it is original). If it is an FD it has the 4.10 rear end which seems weird to me for an NA as most are 3.73.

If anyone has knowledge please spread it!

US market NA 740-940s have run 4.10 ratio rear axles with an automatic transmission since at least the late 80s. The Turbo models run 3.73 rear axles. This table isn't completely accurate, yet, should give you an idea. Your 940 should have a 1041 axle with the G80 locker and 4.10 ratio gear set.

There is a label on the left axle tube hidden under the layer of undercoating

You scrape off the undercoating to find the label, it will say the ratio

That's where it should be, about 8"-10" in from the control arm attachment point facing the rear of the car.

I’ve had three non turbo 940’s and all were 4.10 locking rears.
