Bertone 262 mods

Considering the engine was raced at LeMan, used on the Delorean and many other vehicles there seems to be quite a bit of hate towards the PRV. Later 2.8 look pretty decent on paper.

The PRV was also used by Winabago in a line of RV's in the 80's. I believe that just about 100% of the engines were replaced under warranty. The vehicle was much too heavy for the engine design.

One more little note on auto transmission conversion if you are going OD auto;

The AW70 with a PRV bell housing was only produced in '82-'83 with a mechanical speedometer cable. As mentioned, this time frame did not produce many survivor 260 PRV cars.

I had a decent AW70 OD transmission but had to find the PRV bell housing and then . . . and then . . . had to find a mechanical speedometer cable tail housing to complete the job.

That way you would only have to swap out the tail housing.

Don't forget, you are going to have to shorten the front section of the drive shaft.

I started out looking for those 2 years of correct front and rear parts, couldn't find any and the transmission would be shot anyway. Ended up swapping both ends but that wasn't so hard.

As a mechanic poetically put it to me when I was first looking at a 6 cylinder 240 "That engine is one of the greatest boat anchors ever designed"

I for one LOVE the 262 Bertone - but it would be a project for a drive train replacement and it would have to have an interior in good shape which is so rare.

Meh... Lousy boat anchor. Aluminum not heavy enough.
They made money for shops when cars were young enough that clients would spend on them.
Lots of cheesewad ?cam and rocker arm kits? were available back in the day... most with cams poorly finished that wore away in 5000 miles even with fresh oil.

JohnLane would be happy to help you turbo the PRV if you want.

.

There was a time when that was true. I?ll happily help you Tom.
This guy is done with time wasters who won?t ever finish a project that was a big effort when parts were more readily available and I was interested in them.

OP.... Search nOOb. Lots of information right here on TB.

Enjoy your project.

I still have the B280 you were considering buying for a time wasting customer. :-P It's in my for sale thread. I'd love to see it go to use. That body/shell is heading for the crusher within the next month.
