Is it possible to loosen up driveshaft u-joints?

What you need to do is jack the car up, fill a kiddie pool full of axle grease, then lower the offending driveshaft component into the kiddie pool. Put it in drive and let 'er rip.
THIS.

one correction:
The joint needs (to be) replaced.

Sure the grease got in and lossened (lossenated?) up the sticky joint.

off centerness (clapclapclap)
A trifecta, ignoring the simple transpositionation of some letters.

When those joints let go and youre stranded and are then forced to buy another driveshaft and more than likely whatever exhaust pices were mangled in the process, I really hope you don't come on here complaining.
When Isaac loses a driveshaft, he hops on his bobbed motorcycle, pops a wheelie (no helmet) and rides that betch to the pick and pull, where he jumps the fence and lands on the hood of a K-Car (thinking it's a 740).
MOSTLY TRUE STORY.

Isaac,

I really hope this is nothing more than a joke. The damage that WILL be done if one of the u-joints actually breaks can't be imagined. You have to see it in person. As unlikely as it sounds, I actually went to high school with a guy that dropped the front u-joint in his El Camino at speed on the highway. It did dig in, causing the car to stand on its nose. It didn't flip, however, it did rip the differential right off the lower control arms. That f**ked the quarter panels up pretty good as well. Even in not so dramatic cases, the drive shaft beats the crap out of the bottom of the car when it is swinging around like a mace on the end of a chain. Like everyone has already said, just fix the damn u-joints. IOW, replace them with new u-joints, not some used ones that someone else was already throwing away.

My suggestion is to eliminate ujoints entirely; they are nothing but a PITA. I mean, that swimming pool idea... sure it'd Work fine, but then all those kids would take Forever to get clean again. And that's if you could even find them in there.
Oh right, take the kids out first... whatever.
I am pretty sure that several drive belts from a Harley, glued together, and some simple machining to the trans and rear end to accommodate, would more than suffice.

was hard to find an outside shot video haha most of the videos are kids trying to race their mustangs and recording it with a phone while driving when it happens, happening on launch which just amounts to no moving, or breaking during a tug o war match/tractor pull

Damn good candidate here, I'd trust anything he says. He's been learning how to kill Volvos online for over 13 years.

But seriously, replace the u-joints. And there is something about the OEM u-joints - why do they last so much longer than anything aftermarket? Finer needle bearings?

Seems to me that just means he does not like to spend $$ on the car?

And I've seen folks *with a lot less than 12 years of experience* that can easily kill a Volvo..........

But...... it seems like he'd rather jerry rig something than actually *fix it right*?

I assumed this was satirical, as should you have smokey.

Sometimes on TB... *with certain members* ....it can be *very hard to tell*.........................

if they are being serious...or...satiracle.

This due to the usual tie wrap, JB Weld, Duct tape and bailing wire method (and now a baggie full of grease) of "fixing Volvos" by so many members here on TB.

And I use the term "fixing" very loosely herein this scenario of the OP.....

I, for one, think this is/was one of those cases.........

Bad thing is.... and I give it @ one week, .................

before some poor member, who is not mechanically inclined, & who does not know any better.. reads the Op's fix...........................

and *he* will tie a "greased up sandwich baggie" around his 240's DS u joints, thinking he truly has fixed the problem.........

Any bets?

Mike wins this on the last turn, Athlon, tommy, the truck mechanic, jerry and the machine get medals, and holy catballs some of you guys should go pro at being internet douchebags. Swear I could write a thread called "My 240 exploded and I didn't have a seatbelt: Should I ride it out or tuck and roll?" and see how many "you're endangering children" responses I could get from the Misplaced Projected Responsibility Police.

Smokey, your vendetta ends here. I didn't mean to hurt you. I love you too much.

Btw you disrespectful cockbag, in case you don't know when the whole +T concept started, do the math on what you just wrote: I've been teaching how to kill Volvos for 13 years. I did more with $200 worth of duct tape and junkyard parts* than you've done with the benefit of more than a dozen years of specialized Volvo knowledge.

*with respect to Kenny and Sam

Hey your inoffensiveness is noted and your lack of hating is admirable.

The slapping of your wrist was not for "me personally", but rather the *betterment of our TB forum* in general.......;-)

No worries........and no "vendetta" here......just ease up on the name calling/disrespect. You'll have more & better TB friends that way............ Friends *are* good to have these days...........Yup....
