![]() Hi
I currently have a 1988 740 with a j/p marked overdrive. I have a newer p type and am wondering if it would be compatible with the existing m46. It looks identical from the exterior. Many thanks Andrew |

![]() I don't believe you can stick a P type OD on a trans that has a J or J/P type. From what I understand the output shaft of the transmission is larger for P type OD's.

![]() ONly J/P marked overdrive on m46 I ever saw was on a 16v car. I don't know the size of the shaft hole is but yeah P has bigger shaft hole then J. Curious what the P/J size shaft hole is.

![]() That was at the old north Portland U-Pull It. You pulled the flywheel, and left the transmission. It went into my son's car, and was functioning perfectly when it was replaced with an M90. M46 transmissions have become scarce. They were plentiful 5-20 years ago.
