Crank Steered vs Piston Steered?

Ok, I am an idiot. What does that mean? What is better for what application? Which engines have that?

I see a lot of threads referring to that, and other than knowing the B2X has one while the B2XX has the other, I know nothing about them
 
Refers to what locates the connecting rod side to side.

Crank steered - the bit end rod is a close fit between both sides of the journal on the rod, and has a looser fit up at the piston.
Piston steered - the small end of the rod is a close fit between both sides of the piston, and has a looser fit down at the crank.
