My milkshake brings all the ..... Feck!

Thinking on just pulling the whole engine.
Literally everything mechanical/ electrical so far has needed going through and I don't want to rush things/ can't due to time and finances anyways.

Maybe whipping the engine out and checking all on the stand would be handier ?

Lol 😂 thankfully it can take it's sweet time!

we ran some compression tests and it's allover the place 95 in one, 129 in another, 110 in other two so bottom end / piston rings will need looking at.

I'm thinking of picking up a b230 engine from a newer 240 and nail my turbo bits onto it, run megasquirt and be done with it!

I'm pretty tired of the unobtainable kjet bits at this stage.

I did manage to distract myself with some mates' cars today. Full paint detail on a w123 which took the crazing out and I'm getting that pinto wagon waxed come Friday for a show.

I'm half decent at detailing but these guys have full on nova drag cars and pinto powered goodness so I'm learning about engine swaps with them close by.

It's very satisfying taking things apart, I'll give it that.

So head is off, a bit of a lip at top of cylinders.

I'm going to drop off the head to a local shop and see if it's salvageable. The threads for spark plugs are filthy and two seemed to be crossthreaded before.

Looking at the gasket I can see two areas the coolant could have mixed with oil passages.

An engine I was hoping to get was sold by time I got to it. Hoping to have the option of a decent b230 to throw into it if it comes to it.

Time to start thinking of a replacement engine too possibly. Going to get the head looked over and see if what I have is realistically rebuildable.

Tempting to go for a later b230 to at this stage

Not to make things worse but that turbo looks done as well. Normal things when you deal with an old engine.

I figured going by the amount of crud on that side of the engine. It's like archaeology at this stage!

So soon we'll see if the head is salvageable, then I'll probably whip out the rest of the engine and get the whole thing rebuilt!

I really wish I'd taken a before pic of my engine stand. It's a homemade affair I got for free.It was crusty, so it got the end of the strut brace paint.

Then these s80 rims came up local for $50. I have no self control!

So took a run to the scrapyard and found a 1992 Volvo 940 engine with 100 k miles, getting the exhaust manifold & turbo off this 740 too!

Hoping my old power steering pump will fit!

Will have to convert the engine to run a distributor in the block too!

Would have preferred a 90-93 240 engine but that's what's local !

Got a bit more done today, still have to get a hoist for the old block but did strip out the old kjet bits and placed the 740 turbo air box. Will have to re-locate the intake pipe but looks possible.

Got loads of the new harness too but probably irrelevant with the megasquirt leanings now.

Looking into Cas DSM Mitsubishi setup so I can run coil on plug. Can run the old setup with megasquirt but we'll see, a nice cam and adjustable pulley might be money better spent.

I also have to think of drilling my block for a turbo oil return, or the pan with an An bung.

Looks like I'll be painting the bay. A bit of rust under battery tray needs a good scrub conversion and some por 15.

Scored this hazet knock off tool thing which is now the detailing stuff holder thingy.

Then we got distracted at a car show!
Let's just say it's between a Fairlane or galaxie at this stage. The galaxie is coolest but a big auld beast!

Work then went back to the Volvo, brackets for camshaft seal retainerage.

I wanted to be able to change the angle on the intake if necessary, so tried making a blanking plate out of some flashing and some pipe fittings from home depot.

That's it for this weekend.

I'm still debating over which route to take with engine management. It's mega squirt or Maxx ecu. Looking for whatever is easier and more long term viable with the car. Eventually I'd like a t5 engine in there possibly.

I can stick with m46 for now and thinking of retaining the current flywheel/clutch setup it's a 12 lb weight saving keeping the b21ft flywheel vs a b230 albeit a smaller clutch disc [FONT=verdana, geneva, lucida, lucida grande, arial, helvetica, sans-serif]215mm vs 228mm.

The alternative is to source the bigger 60/2 flywheel and clutch pack but the hoor stories of failing dog dishes have me reluctant.

Then the only option I can think of would be the dsm cas conversion for the dizzy

[FONT=verdana, geneva, lucida, lucida grande, arial, helvetica, sans-serif]All of this will push out the build as I get the funds together for the various bits!

Which yard did you find the engine and turbo parts?

Knock knock knockin' on heaven's door!

would you consider a maxxecu? I am a dealer located in Dallas and i'm able to remote tune you from my house. I did jesse's car here recently.

Definitely in the running alright. Would like more tunability and an easier tuning / setup process.

I've to figure out what combination of engine bits I'm going to run with now with this white one on the lot !

Twas filthy with dust so gave it a quick wipe

They look so pretty together.

Started moving up the 530 head off the 940 on the b21 block in the 242. Will have to remove the cruise control diaphragm. Interference with the brake booster. Injectors off a 740 and have the ballast pack, might run 850 injectors to save hassle?

Started stripping out the white 244 to do the block swap. Theory is take the head off, mate to the fresh block and then remove old block and stab in the freshly resealed/ headgasketed engine.

I'll be honest it's real tempting to transfer all over to the 242 but the white car is so clean/ so together that it'd be such a waste of a potentially great save.
