Default Volvo 240: T6?

Ok, I know there are several threads about T6 swaps in a 240 chassis but most are several years old. Sooo my question is:

What would you do/choose if you would fit a T6 in a 240? What would be the easiest way/ best bang for the buck? If I were to use a T6 I'd like to keep the VVT functional - what is my best bet for an EMS? It seems that using the stock ECU is somewhat tricky as it has an immobiliser built in. So is it easier to use Megsquirt MS3 (I understand that it can control VVT) or MaxxECU that has a terminated harness for T5/T6 engines too?

I have the chance to get a complete T6 engine out of an XC90 with 140.000 miles for $700 - is this still ok or should I look for one with less miles (there are several available in Germany with just 80.000 miles for about $1200 - but without turbos, manifolds, alternator etc. - just the engine really).

Thanks

M52 or M54 are far better engines

Ok... the S54 would be great but man, those are expensive! M54 is 228hp max, right? How easy is it to get them to 300hp+? I assume I need a standalone EMS?

My 2.8 makes about 265 bhp (226 whp) with slightly bigger cams off an E46 ZHP, headers, M50 intake manifold, light port work, and a tune. If you throw a cast manifold and a medium aizwd turbo, these will sneeze out 300hp.

You can have Siemens MS4x tuned. I’d personally prefer a standalone myself, yes.

On the ECU … by the time you do this engine swap it’s going to cost enough overall that a proper aftermarket ECU like a MoTeC M84 or whatever Haltech isn’t going to cost significantly more.

ok, since this thread drifted to BMW engines I'll open up a new thread for the BMW options: https://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?p=6295660
