My Volvo has the coffin hood and has a massive dent unrepairable.

Would this style hood work?

What year ir your 240? If it's an 80-85 then in order to swap over to this hood you'll also need to swap over the front fenders, core support, and headlights. Even after you've done all of this it still won't match up exactly at the rear part where the hood meets the car at the center.

here all the Volvo 240s in the 100 mile radius from my house at junk yards
1986 4 of these
1987 8 of these
1988 1 of these
1990 2 of these
Hoods go for 80 dollars each and fenders are 40 each.

While that hood can be bolted to the car, the "snout" on the hood is less pronounced(read shorter) than the "snout" on the older coffin hood. About 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 inches. I know I check it a while back, as was consdering doing same. You can use the later grille & hood together IINM.

140 67-74 [doesn't fit 240 or vice versa]

240 75-79

242 only in 80

In the US of A, flathood comes on:

1975-1977 240

1978-1980 242DL/GT (only ones commonly offered IIRC)

1983 242T homoligation "flatnose" car

1975-77 has metal trim with trim clip holes in the front, 1975 to sometime early 1976 has the single washer squirter, 1979-1980 and newer has the "indent" on the driver side frame/cross reinforcement like the 1983 flatnose turbo cars that fits around the TIC intake elbow properly (others fit, but don't really allow much room for the motor to rock with that manifold...not sure about clearance on non-IC cars, but I think it would fit since europe got flathood turbo (presumably non IC in 82-83ish) cars).

The latch on the hood itself is different as are the springs on the hinges for the flathood.

Those are all the differences I know of. Find an 85 and older hood.

Hi everyone,

I have 1988 year 245 volvo and luckly I found quad square headlight setup (including fenders , grill , hood etc.). But there is problem with coffin hood, which doesn't fit nice. Is there any possiblity to rebuilt 1986-1993 hood to coffin hood ? For example weld something additional to get look like coffin hood ? ( I am from EU so USA quad square front is somthing magical )

Try fitting up the lights. I think you can fit them. Maybe modify the grill to work with the lights. I wouldn't bother with all the fenders and hood change. Just change the headlights and see what you have. You'll have to come up with a way to mount the turn signal lights but I'm sure you can figure something out.

Fenders wouldn't be problem. Also I really like USA style grill and center part (metal piece where headlights , readiator etc. are fixed ) I need to change any way (this winter get into accident).
