Default Volvo B30, anyone make a crossflow head for it?

I'm guessing not...I did a google search and couldn't find anything.

I was just wondering if there was an oddball tuner back in the day that had some custom heads cast for the straight 6?

My father owned quite a few 164 back in the day. I'll have to ask.

Weslake did a few, incredibly rare, I guess it's possible they did a b30.

Can't these things hit 200ponies pretty easily with head ports and carbs? Why the work for crossflow?

All you need is two of those weslake heads. Cut the front chamber off of one, and the rear chamber off the other and weld'm up. That'd work woundn't it?

I'm guessing that 2 of those heads would be more fun on 2 b20's than one b30.

I just figured if you reeeealy wanted a bad b30, you only need about 30 grand worth of raw materials.

Borespacing is same as the Oh Haitch Sea motor so just 'cut-n-shut" a couple of B234 heads
I can sketch you up a deal to carve up to support the dangling end of the camshafts... Its just a little welding and surfacing..

Come on.... pent roof...central sparkie plugskies...300 n.a. horzepowerz.

Nice head, but certainly not for a B20 without MAJOR work. Between the drive system for the cams, plus needing a way to block the block off where the pushrods would go, that would take some massive doing.

That said I would LOVE to see something like that on mine with a nice hairdryer on the side!

Why not just go white block? Or perhaps something more exotic?

I had read somewhere that there was a company remaking those 16v b20 heads, but I can't find the link.

The Weslake head is for OHC blocks. Look at the oil feed and return holes. This is the 16 valve conversion for B20.

Because whiteblocks suck. And then you could also go 2J, M/S50/52, etc...hell, diesel bellhousing and a VR6. But B30 is raw sex. Period.

Sadly, they don't even have a price for it.

Just curious that is all, I saw some videos of old hot rodded B30s and was wondering if anyone really spent the time and money to seriously develop them further.

If one fell into my hands I'd like to play with one. I've always liked I6 motors and wished Ford brought their Australian market only straight sixes to the US.

There's always this cylinder head:

Procure one and see if you can feasibly bolt it to a B30 bottom end.

When that doesn't pan out, just buy the rest of the 2JZ and use that as well.

Maybe spend 1/10th the effort and expense in making some valve covers that say 'Volvo' on them.

This^

Otherwise it's a wasted effort (if the thing you want is a bitchin' straigh-6) unless you want to give yourself an exercise in machining over anything else.
