Got her about 3 years ago off of Ebay for $600. and drove her home in 2nd gear.
She was a full car I am in the process of stripping her down. ( engine is next )
Im going to give her a nice sand job and do a full repaint starting with the engine bay. ( to get the learning curve out of the way ).

What I want to know is what Volvo Power Plant should I put in? I can thow money @ it here and there and I can get Engines by the dozens. 16v 8v 6cyl you name it turbos no turbos the junkyard has them all. looking for some good power maybe the six cyl ? or a good strong turbo. I need help on whats going to get me som really good power.

This is going to be a Ground up Project inside and out .

if you want to stick to volvo engines get a b23ft from a 1984 7XX. its a turboed 4 cycl wiht forged internals and i guess is the storngest of the bunch. don't get the 7XX series v6. i heard they suckthorrrzzzzzzzzzzzz with a b23ft ( and $$$) you can swap the head to a 16v get a MBC anda K&N and you'll be in the high-med 13 sec 1/4 mile range ( if my benchracing knowledge servs me right)

if you dont want to get a volvo engine well then the skys the limit

No it must be volvo but fro what I have seen on the forums the 16v turbo conversion may be a little out of my league.

normal 8v works fine, i think its quick enough. i have a 8v b23ft and its a beast at 15psi.

ive spent a total ( not including a complete engine rebuild) of about 200 bucks for mods.. $75 for the front sway bar, $30 for the rear springs, $15 for the boost controller, and $56 for the K&N.

it can take out rsx-s integy type rs civic SIs ( insert other basic ricer car) i've taken a cobalt ss off the line till speed limit. many soccer moms in SUVs, z4s. basically its quick enough to prevent people from cutting you off and or powerful enough to cut people off:oogle: :oogle: :-D :-D. the current power level which i have is, i think, the fastest i really want to make the volvo... ( except for a +90 manifold:) )

If you want the ultimate in Volvo power, get with John Lane on this board. He can help you build a 3.0 liter PRV V-6 that would be turbocharged. He gets 500 hp from his.

It sounds like the most sensible option for you would be a 'tweaked' 8v turbo unit. Sounds like a fun project - good luck with it!

cheers

I have Changed my mind on the 16v Thats what i am going to do its just to sick not to !
Now to get the head before its gone. What block should I mate this to ? Will I need to machine pistons ?

The best block in my opinion to mate the 16V head to would be a 93-95 B230FT engine. This block has piston oil squirters stock. You'll need to have the pistons cut for valve reliefs or buy some of the newfangled high performance rods and pistons being offered by board members.

Ok the engine is on its way out. me and my son are pulling her tonight or going to try to before I have too much beer. Its amazing how f***ked up the bolts are striped and rusty whoever worked on her befor I got it should be SHOT. BTW anyone need some regina parts ? I have 2 trannys and 1 red block 91'. Free to those in Houston area that want to come pick them up as I wil be replacing all of this crap. its all working the trans has a bad kickdown cable I think the other I dont know. Will be posting pics of the pulls when done.

I removed the alt and saw this. see anything wrong and the belt is tight?
Amazing

I would go with the 960 style I6
the cams from the 92-94 cars are the best
and the blocks from the 96+ cars are the most ideal

then add MS
With MS 220-250hp is easily possible with good fuel
the motronic computers that volvo used from the factory were not very agressive with timing because of "crappy us fuel" and emissions...

the I6 just has the instant torque that no na or turbo I4 will ever have

Is that fuse justion and relay board stock??? If it is I need to go nab one from the junkyard for my custom harness. Anyway, I would stick with the 8v but try and find a oil squirter block if you don't already have one. You can get pistons and rods for it from a guy on here and a proturbo header will make the exhaust side of things flow very nicely and can accomodate most turbos including the very large holset. I would also recommend megasquirt. It will give you tuning capabilities and make more reliable power all the way around.

?? You make a turbo wiring harness ?? why do I need a new fuse block ?

?? You make a turbo wiring harness ?? why do I need a new fuse block ?

I dont make them, im just working on a harness for my megasquirt and autometer gauges. Eventually I will tear out all of the un-needed wires and re-wire everything else thats left in the car like the lights.

You don't need a new fuse block. I was just thinking of using it for my project since I could find it in the junkyard but I found some good solutions from a electrical supply place.
